Today’s Funny Travel Photo is of the Sea Turtles and their Military Egg Guardians.
It’s from Annabel Candy from Get In The Hot Spot. Check it out
Sea Turtles Under Armed Guard!
Unfortunately, these solider’s are needed to protect the Sea Turtle Eggs from poachers who want to steal them and sell them as a potential aphrodisiac.
While this may hard to believe, this photo is both sad and unbelievable at the same time – that there is a market to steal animals/animal parts just so some people think this can get their rocks off!
Anyway, if you’re walking along a beach in Nicaragua and come across some soldiers standing next to a few straining Sea Turtles trying to squeeze their eggs out, now you know why!
Lucky the turtles at Mon Repos in Australia or the Turtle Recovery Centre in Samoa don’t have to face this – yet!
Hasn’t yet come to that in Australia … so far! And why is it just the unusual animal parts perceived as aphrodisiacs? Just askin’!!
Anyone remember that youtube clip? ‘I like turtles!’
So sad, that this is necessary.
I guess we own a big thank you to the Nicaraguan military for undertaking this protection. I did think the soldiers look a little embarrassed. Probably wasn’t what they thought they were signing up for!
Why can’t they just buy oysters? Poor Sea Turtles, glad they’re being looked out.
I am glad that the Nicaraguan soldiers are guarding the sea Turtles, making sure that they are safe. This blog should be an example all over the world for protecting sea Turtles. I wonder how it came to be that sea Turtles became aphrodisiac. Thanks to the Nicaraguan military for protecting them.
