Places To Stay In Fiji – There’s Heaps!

After my week in Fiji, I highly recommend going there.  And that’s not just before I was sent on a trip there.

It has something for everyone: for backpackers, young families, and anyone else who is human.  But the best thing about the place, apart from being a tropical paradise, are it’s people.  They some of the most friendly people I’ve come across in the world – and that’s a big call, considering I’ve been to around 40 countries.

It’s also so much more than a place where you can have amorous thoughts about Wilson the Volleyball (like Tom Hanks did in the movie, Castaway, which was filmed in Fiji).

People often don’t realise this, but you can stop in Fiji on the way/to from Australia and the United States.  That’s not such a bad idea if you want to break up a long trans-Pacific flight in a nice place. And there are loads of Places To Stay In Fiji.

If you really wanted to, you could try an island hopping trip around the Pacific.  It’s only 6 hours to Hawaii, and there are also direct flights to Hong Kong.

Anyway, when it comes to accommodation, I usually tend to choose the tight arse option, such as sleeping on a bus station floor, or a cockroach infested dormitory (ironically, DORMITORY is an anagram of DIRTY ROOM), but Tourism Fiji put me up in some great Places To Stay while I was there.

There are loads of Places To Stay In Fiji (you can troll through the hordes of accommodation options on the Tourism Fiji website – click on ‘Places to Stay’), but this post outlines the Places Where I Stayed!

Bear in mind, this is a smidgin (Australian slang for a ‘small percentage’) of accommodation options, which can range from backpacker to mega luxurious:

Here goes:

Fiji Resort and Spa – managed by the Hilton

This is located on Denarau Island, not far from the main Airport near Nadi.  The Fiji Resort and Spa is one of many hotels located on Denarau.  I noticed loads of families staying here, as well as couples.  There is even a barbeque on the balcony of each room so you can cook your own meals or be a lazy sod and order from room service.

Denarau Island is also the main port for boat trips to outer islands like the Mamanuca and Yasawa Groups.  The main ferry terminal also houses a shopping complex, including the Hard Rock Cafe.

In fact, you can do a New YMCA version by the Village People there:

Warwick Hotel – Coral Coast

The Warwick Hotel is located on the Coral Coast, on the southern part of the main island Viti Levu – and in a nice spot, as you can see below.

The Warwick Hotel has good access to the Sigatoka River Safari, (see my posts about River Jet Boating and the Fiji Kava Ceremony) and has a number of award winning restaurants.  You must try their coral trout.

Uprising Beach Resort

Uprising Beach Resort is located in the Pacific Harbour region, close to the capital of Fiji, Suva.  There are beachfront bures there that have great views of the Pacific Ocean.

Loads of activities can be organised from here, such as the Jet Ski Safari, Zip Lining and the Arts Village.

There is also a massive dormitory – and this must be the coolest looking Dormitory Room I’ve seen!

 Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa

As mentioned in Surf Fiji – In Front of Your Resort, you can swim out to a surf break from the Fiji Hideaway Resort & Spa, which is located smack bang in front of the resort.  Once again, they’re located on the Coral Coast in a nice spot (like the rest of Fiji) and cater for all sorts of people.

The resort is also close to the Kula Eco Park.

You should try some Moreton Bay bugs in garlic and chilli.  Fantastic.  Thanks to Kerry and the dingy trip out to the surf break.

Once again, thanks to Tourism Fiji for this opportunity!
