World Rallying – The Funny Way
Today was the first day of cruising around Tasmania following the Targa Tasmania Car Rally, thanks to Mazda Australia (say hi to @MazdaAus on Twitter) who were silly enough to lend me and my mate from GTStyle.com a Mazda MX5 for a few days.
We were lucky enough to follow an end stage of the Targa – and check out the aftermath of a poor sod who managed to completely write off his Porsche!
To be fair actually, it’s not that hard to do.
The Rally Cars churn up a heap of gravel which makes driving on some of these roads like walking on marbles if you’re going at some crazy ridiculous speed. It hasn’t convinced me to have a change of career to World Rallying!

Unfortunately, this is what can happen of you lose control of a Porsche that has chewed up your life savings!
Note, this is probably around one hundred thousand dollars worth of car that has vapourised into thin air!

Actually, I felt sorry for the driver and the navigator.
There were film crews and spectators witnessing their poor misfortune of crashing out of the Targa Tasmania. But that’s expected of an event like this, where the drop out rate would be reasonably high.
Anyway, this is part of the Targa Tasmania Course where this poor guy lost control of his Porsche! It’s good fun driving these windy roads in a MX5!

After finding this part of the Targa Tasmania a bit amusing, we went for a drive in the nearby scenic Tamar Valley, and checked out the Beaconsfield Mine before heading back to the Boag’s Brewery in Launceston to check out some nice beer!
If you manage to lug yourself half way around the world to Australia, it’s worth hopping over to that tiny island called Tasmania just to the south of mainland Australia.
All in all, a hard day’s work in the office!
