Wagyu Beef – will burn a hole in your pocket!

Wagyu Beef and Steak isn’t exactly the type of steak that you would want to eat in the quantities I wrote about in ‘Don’t Cry For Meat Argentina.’ And it’s not that these chunks of bovines taste like crap.

That’s because it’s the World’s Most Expensive Meat!

Here is a massive display of Wagyu Beef that I spotted in Kyoto in Japan on a G Adventures trip to Japan. All of the different types of beef here related to the different grades produced.

Wagyu Beef And Steak - Kobe Beef

Wagyu Beef is a delicacy and it’s price wildly varies depending on the amount and type of fat marbling that occurs within the meat.

For example, check out this sample below at 2940 Japanese Yen per 100 grams of meat – which is the most expensive in this display.

Worlds Most Expensive Steak

If you’re struggling with the conversion rate – at the time of writing in late 2011, this meat would cost $US37 per hundred grams, or $US370 per kilogram – or if you still live in the imperial age, that’s $US165 per pound!

I’m guessing one wouldn’t eat this stuff in the quantities that crazy carnivores in the Heart Attack Grill!
