Hey there. If you are looking for information on The Presidential Race, you’ve come to the wrong place! I’m sure there are tonnes of websites and blogs that will be covering the most bizarre political campaign that occurs in the world! I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the White House or Capitol Hill!
But, while you are here, do you have any idea where the Presidential Highway is? Have a look at this sign below.
The Presidential Race With A Difference.
From the sign, it’s a dead giveaway that the Presidential Highway is not in the United States – because the distance is listed in the metric system (kilometres), whereas the imperial system is still alive and well in the land of Uncle Sam.
Clinton is a small town in South Otago, in New Zealand’s South Island. It is located on State Highway One down the road from the town of Gore. Someone in a local tourism board thought it was a good idea to have the section between Gore and Clinton be named ‘The Presidential Highway‘, after Bill Clinton and Al Gore came to power in the early 1990s.
Now I’d like to see Bill Clinton and Al Gore do a drag race down the Presidential Highway!
I’m not sure if this initiative has created a surge of American tourists to this laid back part of New Zealand, but it’s a nice play on words!
If you’re wondering, no, there isn’t a town called ‘Lewinsky‘ that is located just below Clinton…
Ironically, if just a few people in the town of Gore had voted in the 2000 Presidential Election, Al Gore might have won! Oh well.
