Today I have another piece of gold from Sarah Carroll. She’s sent me stuff like the People Always Complain Hardware Store in Malawi and the Funny Bar Sign in Zambia.

But today she has a photo highlighting the talents of Dr Mulilanji who specialises in Syphilis Treatments combined with International Shoe Repair!

As mentioned before, Sarah runs The Ethical Volunteer. You can follow Sarah on Twitter @EthicalVol and on Facebook.

Here it is! No joke!

The Syphilis Treatments Photo from Dr Mulilanji!

Funny Syphilis Treatments And Symptoms Sign

Anyway, Sarah says, ‘This one has to go up! It’s a street sign from the village of Mfuwe near South Luangwa national park in eastern Zambia. What I want to know is, what is international shoe repair?’

That one has me flummoxed as well. I’m not sure how someone can combine the experience of treating a sexually transmitted disease that probably wiped out the Roman Empire with Cobbling Skills. Not sure how you actually spot Syphilis Symptoms this way, but you just never know.

Personally, I think it’s a great idea if you have an itchy groin from sleeping around with too many people which may require some syphilis treatments, plus you have a blowout with one of your shoes at the same time. I think Dr Mulilanji has got this niche completely nailed!

Here you go – have this antibiotic cream to kill that feral bug hanging around your nether regions, plus, I’ve patched together your shoes! Weird!

Actually, it’s worth going to this part of the world. South Luangwa National Park is one of the best parks I’ve been to in Africa for spotting wildlife, mainly because you have most of the place to yourself and it doesn’t feel like a highway like some of the bigger name parks in Africa. But I’d go back there again just to see this sign!

That’s what I really love about Africa – it has some of the quirkiest and bizarre signs I’ve seen anywhere, like the Be Nice To Your Doctor one I saw in a Malawi Hospital.

I’m guessing Dr Mulilangi has a copy of Pox: Genius, Madness, And The Mysteries Of Syphilis to help diagnose and treat his patients…
