Ski Holidays are a popular option for travellers who love their snow. In fact, some people love the snow so much that they follow the white powder all around the world so they avoid summer completely! Well, that’s not for me, I like a bit of variety and warm sun now and then!

However, skiing trips seem to be a travel insurers (and yours!) worst nightmare because they seem to bump up their premiums if you say you’re going snowboarding, and I guess their stats don’t lie! Have a chat to a Medical Repatriation Nurse if you don’t believe me!

But still, skiing trips are very popular all around the world. I’ve known friends who have gone skiing in all sorts of places, including Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. And there are other not so well known places in South America and Africa that are also becoming popular with skiers and snowboarders.

Ski Holidays In Japan

I’m a pretty ordinary skier. I grew up in a tropical area and the only thing I saw resembling ice was the build up in the freezer which kept the food cold. I first saw snow when I was 17 on a school ski trip to New Zealand and thought how weird it was that school kids there undertook skiing as part of their sporting program!

Having said that, I did quite enjoy the trip, but haven’t really gone back for more as my face seem to attract the snow whenever I fell over!

But for the more advanced skiers, ski trips have their own etiquette and unwritten laws, so I’ve decided to list a few golden rules that seem completely obvious, but are sometimes challenged by people who like testing Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. These rules range from being on the slopes to hanging out at the resort with some new made friends – and sometimes, enemies because you’ve cut someone off out on the ski fields!

Anyway, here is a silly list of the golden rules of Ski Holidays!

  • Don’t eat the yellow snow!
  • Don’t make a snowman from the yellow snow either!

How To Make A Snowman

  • Never, ever forget to wind the windows up on your car.

Removing Ice Off Car

  • When skiing, try to avoid any metal beams that support the chair lift at all times
  • Skiing isn’t really a hangover cure after a big night on the booze
  • If you’re a complete novice, try not to be so macho to tackle the cross country course.
  • Try not to whack one of those kids who whizz past your on the slopes either because you’re annoyed that they’re way better than you are!
  • Don’t try to take a selfie with your phone and post it to Instagram whilst trying to navigate your ski course. Oops, I think I might have just started a new silly social media craze..
  • Try not to break the land speed record by seeing if you can exceed the engineering capacity of your skis or snowboard

  • Try not to freak out complete strangers on the gondola ride up to the start of your skiing course by saying that you’re a chair lift engineer and that you can’t remember which chair has a missing bolt because you’ve just dropped it into the snow
  • Try not to swivel when carrying your skis on your shoulder in crowded areas, and finally
  • If you can’t afford the snowboarding component of your travel insurance policy, you definitely can’t afford to travel!

So there you go – a list of silly golden rules for your ski vacation.
