Secret Spots in Australia – Local Destinations Nominated by Locals!

Secret Spots in Oz – D’oh, they’re not so secret anymore!

I’ve been doing a bit of stuff with Hooroo lately. They were silly enough to send me on a fantastic weekend/junket to Lord Howe Island and they’ve been trying to source the best Secret Spots in Australia for their website. But they haven’t bailed up one of their junior staff in a corner to start Googling where they are so they can cut the costs!

Secret Spots In Australia - Hooroo Competition

No, they asked the general public to nominate their favourite Secret Spots on the Hooroo Facebook page so Hooroo could come up with a Top 40 list for people to vote on. But the great perk for me was that Hooroo would sent me to one of the Top 40 Secret Spots to experience it first hand. And I’m all for verifying this information!

Being a Z grade internet celebrity does get me into some cool doors sometimes! Also, the people who nominated a secret spot are also in the running to score a pretty swish holiday to a number of places that would tempt most to escape their fluorescent prison (that is, the office) forever!

These Secret Spots are meant to be places that don’t immediately come to mind when you think of Australia (and the potential Australian Stereotypes) – you know, places like Bondi Beach, the Sydney Opera House, and possibly the Cockroach Races. The aim here is to dig deeper to discover the not so obvious places in Australia. I wouldn’t mind seeing all of them myself, but I think it would take years and a lot of driving/flying around to see them!

Obviously, when Hooroo announced them, this means that these secret spots aren’t secret any more (sounds like something from Get Smart!). And to be honest, I hope they don’t become so popular that they end up becoming a Tourist Trap! And because most of the places I’ve visited in Australia are a bit silly (like the Give War a Chance poster and being attacked by a German Shepherd) I wasn’t going to bother nominating any of my own!
