River Jet Boating in Fiji – How to Get Wet on a Sigatoka River Safari

River Jet Boating – Great Fun!

Sigatoka River Safaris operate River Jet Boating tours in Fiji.

They are located near the town of Sigatoka (pronounced ‘Singatoka’), on the southern coast of Fiji’s main island, Viti Levu.

It’s a nice trip up the Sigatoka River.  You’ll be waving a lot to the locals who seem to have an automated response mechanism in their arm to wave all day.  But that’s typical of all of Fiji, probably one of the friendliest places I have ever visited.

While River Jet Boating is a lot of fun, there is a more serious side of the trip.  The Jet Boat stops at a local village as part of the River Jet Boating Tour, and that’s where you get to experience a Fiji Kava Drinking Ceremony, which I will write about in an upcoming post.

By the way, this is real, working village – not something that’s staged just for tourists.

Sigatoka River Safaris donate part of the price you pay to the village they visit.  The villages still don’t have electricity or running water.  The money you pay helps send kids to school, and if you want to, you can chip in a bit more to help out.

Sigatoka River Safaris go to a different village each time (there are about 12 in all), hence helping out the local communities along the Sigatoka River.

On the way home, the driver likes to perform a number of spins within the Sigatoka River.

Here’s a tip – if you want to become soaking wet, sit in the back seat.  The wash from the spin will definitely soak you.

Sounds like an excellent time. I did some jet boating here in New Zealand, and it was a rush – nice to have a mix of the adventure and culture in Fiji though.

Haha, All I could think was “holy crap, that’s fast” and then you said it for me at the end of the video:) That looks amazing and what a great organization that they donate proceeds to the village. Fiji is a dream destination for me.

I was really surprised at how fast it was as well! Seems like a great excursion, you get to experience how the locals live (and help) then you get scared silly on the way back.

Wow! I am amazed also at how fast that ride was. Nice spinning too! It looked like everyone on the boat enjoyed it as well.
