In my travels, I’ve done a bit of fishing and have eaten a bit of seafood. I’m no Robson Green, but I’ve done things like eating the fish that tastes like chicken and the giant shrimp, eaten at the rum bar/fish and chip shop, gone fishing for Yellowfin Tuna, checked out the amazing Osaka Aquarium, seen a fish feeding frenzy and seen the worst place in the world to go fishing.

But I experienced something a bit different as a social event in SingaporePrawn Fishing!

This unusual but surprisingly addictive and enjoyable experience appeared as the one on 10 Weird Things to do in Singapore which I managed to undertake thanks with the help of the friendly local guides found on MeGuideU.

Anyway, the way that prawn fishing works is that you rent rods and bait for a period of time, throwing the rods into a pond to see if you can land a few crustaceans to eat afterwards. You can do this experience at the Big Splash complex on the eastern side of Singapore.

Prawn Fishing Singapore

Unbelievably, this place is open 24 hours a day for anyone who feels like throwing in a line to catch a fresh seafood feed. Which means there is obviously a demand for it to be open all of that time!

As you can see in the above photo, it’s quite a popular past time and I must admit, I’ve never come across it before either!

And you can sit in your chair relaxing with an ice cold soft drink or beer in the Singapore humidity, taking it all in!

My Prawn Fishing Video from Singapore

There’s nothing like fresh seafood, and you’ll literally have it at Big Splash. That’s because you can immediately cook your prawns just after you catch them at an on site barbecue!

I created a short video to show what this is all about! You’ll get the idea!

Thanks to MeGuideU who provided this experience, and you can also follow them on FacebookTwitterPinterest and Instagram.

Catching prawns … that’s new to me! I can see hanging out like that would be a great stress reliever for the many expats and locals engaged in stressful professions in this busy city.
