Okay, here are one of those annoying travel blogger posts about someone who has been lazing around on the beach doing sod all!

Mission Beach After Cyclone Yasi

This place is called Mission Beach in Far North Queensland, Australia and I checked it out after Europcar Australia lent me a car to drive around in for a few days! Definitely a great place to chill out for a bit.

Well actually, no selfies or anything – but this post is about something unusual and bizarre I spotted on the way to a beach holiday – it’s some mega sized Plus Size Swimwear – the Tree Bikini!

Plus Size Swimwear taken to the next level!

Have a look at this!

Plus Size Swimwear Bikini

I don’t think this massive bikini is going to hit the catwalks of Milan any time soon, but I had a giggle when I first drove past the tree and decided to take a snap.

Now the question I hear you say is ‘why?’. Well, why not?

Looks like this was the end product of a heap of people drinking beer and thinking up ‘hey, that sounds like a great idea’, and then actually following up on their crazy idea by actually doing it!

The thing is, this tree bikini was placed up fairly high on the tree, and would have required a lot of complex logistics to get it up there in the first place.

I think someone would have thought up this idea when seeing the two ‘burls’ on the tree – which is a tree growth that has formed due to a grain abnormality. You see them on trees all over Australia and these burls are lumps that some people chop off to make all sorts of unique wooden furniture.

It looks like someone climbed up there to have a look to measure the size of the burls so that someone could sew all of the red fabric together.

Anyway, we’ll see how long the tree bikini will last. In 2011, Mission Beach was hit by Cyclone Yasi and caused a lot of damage. As mentioned in a previous post about nearby Tully, it was lucky that no one was killed from the Category 5 storm itself.

Unfortunately, this event also flattened the tourism industry there – but there’s no reason to stay away now, Mission Beach is a great place to take a break and it’s only about a 2 hour drive south of Cairns, which still attracts loads of backpackers and visitors.

Australian Beaches

Like other places around the world, Mission Beach and the surrounding areas have rebounded back physically, but the place does need support to get back to where it was.

It was good to see some silly travellers using Mission Beach as a place to go skydiving – as this shot shows them landing near where I was taking a few shots.

And if you go for a drive around, there are other nice places to visit nearby, like Garner’s Beach which is not far away.

Europcar Car Rental Australia

Thanks Europcar Australia for lending me the car!

Plus, why not visit the tree bikini? Something to add to the weird list! Anyway, the tree bikini is almost as silly as the bikini golf tees you can buy…

Thanks once again to Europcar Australia for lending me the car to check out Mission Beach!
