If you want to score a really great ice fix, this is the Perito Moreno Glaicer, in the Patagonia Region of Argentina. It’s quite an impressive large piece of ice for those who like their water frozen. And for me, this would be a great excuse to see how long a six pack of beer would take to cool down if I placed one in the glacier for a while!
But if you’re ever in South America, it’s worth making the long trip to Patagonia to see one of the biggest cooler boxes in the world! You’ll make some extreme explanations in both English and Spanish!
The glacier acts like a dam as it creeps across a river which eventually dams it. However, the water eventually bursts the glacier due to the build up of pressure. You can actually hear the glacier move along the rocks which can be a bit unnerving, but it’s one of those world wonders I’ll never forget.
Anyway, check out the photo of where the glacier sits. I have circled a large boat that does cruises near the glacier – the glacier itself is about 60 metres high.
The Humongous Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia!
What’s most impressive about the glacier is that large bits of it shear off at regular intervals which cause a massive roar, and cause some pretty good surf conditions if you feel like withstanding a very high shrinkage factor. As you can see from the photo above, this fallen ice creates a large South American slush puppie.
However, it looks like the glacier may have contributed to a few potential Darwin Awards for people who have wanted a closer look. Many people have been killed by venturing too close to the ice, as evidence by this warning sign I spotted on a walking path along the glacier:
So don’t screw with the glacier otherwise it will screw with you! One of the more unusual ways to die!
