Melbourne Cup Horse Racing – Funny Costumes!

Be a share millionaire! Tell the world!

If you’re ever in Australia during November, you’ll probably find out pretty quickly that the Melbourne Cup is just another one of those events that are staged in Australia as part of a very thinly disguised booze up!

It also creates a massive dent in the Australian GDP on the first Tuesday of November as it’s a public holiday in Melbourne, plus the rest of the country takes time out to watch the race and gamble away gazillions of dollars on the faint hope that their horse will win!

Australians will find any excuse to skip work for the day and spend time boozing up at an event. Even if you don’t live in Melbourne, there are countless Melbourne Cup functions held around the country, from other race courses to corporate board rooms.

I’ve covered other unusual Australian examples before where events are disguised as an excuse to drink beer, such as:

But it’s not only at the cricket that “Where’s Wally” appears. He’s pretty much everywhere!

He obviously like going to more upmarket events like the Melbourne Cup!

Can you spot him in the seemingly innocent photo below?

Yell out ‘Found You’ if you have!

I love these examples of accidental photo bombs! THe ones that you don’t plan are often the best!

Obviously, these two ladies were just enjoying a couple of drinks and didn’t realise Wally was in the background in amongst the suit and ties!

I haven’t been to a Melbourne Cup day yet, but it’s on my bucket list to do at some time. It’s like the Australian version of the Kentucky Derby in the United States or the Grand National in England.

But I want to go there one day and photograph and/or interview all of the crazy characters who dress up in the silliest and most unpractical costumes just to drink beer at the racecourse all day!

Oh, and you might actually watch some horse racing during the day as well if you can manage to take your eyes of some of the strange costumes there!

I’m guessing if you feel like a long day drinking beer, check out these guys’ stockpile in the back of this ute as well!
