Malaysian Recipes that require a Personal Trainer!
Howdy there, this is my last Malaysian Food and Malaysian Recipes review as part of the rather fattening Malaysia Kitchen junket.
This time, I tried out ‘Old Town Kitchen‘ in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane for another ridiculous feast of Malaysian Recipes.
If you haven’t been to Brisbane, Fortitude Valley used to be a fairly seedy area, but these days it’s been cleaned up and is known as a trendy part of town that’s home to a tonne of restaurants that offer a good feed before heading out on a big night on the booze. For some reason, a belly full of great food doesn’t seem to stop some people to still head to a favourite kebab stand at 3am for the munchies after a few beers, but there’s a good selection of places to eat in this lively part of the city.
You might still see some strange characters walking around, but I like Fortitude Valley because it’s a bit quirky and out there.
Anyway, here is some of the stuff that made it’s way to my stomach for this last Malaysian Recipes jaunt. These Malaysian dishes shown here are a bit different to the other things I’ve tried at Malaya Corner, Treasure House, and Ipoh Laksa, since variety is the spice of life!
Yes, I live to eat, not eat to live!
Malaysian Recipes that pack a flavour punch!
First of all, there is Laksa, namely a Curry Laksa – a famous Malaysian dish that’s pretty popular around the world. It’s like a spicy coconut curry noodle soup. Ingredients vary and can range from fish, chicken to tofu. This is a nice flavour fusion that hits the tongue with a spicy hit. However, don’t wear a white shirt, because you’ll be slurping this dish to the bottom and yellow stains on a white background probably won’t look great on a first date!
Something I’ve never tried before is Malacca Coconut Chicken. This was my favourite dish of the night. This was like smothering tenderised, thick pieces of chicken with a spicy, creamy coconut sauce. Yummo. I would severely doubt this recipe would be on the radar for any weight loss regime.
That’s two marathons for me to work this one off.
And finally, Char Kwai Teow, which literally means ‘stir fried ricecake strips’. This tasted like a heap of noodles, prawns, bean sprouts, chives, eggs and sausage had been stir-fried with a really strong soy sauce. Sounds unusual, but tastes pretty nice.
I’m sort of glad that this Malaysian Food review/pig out/jaunt has come to an end, because I don’t think I could afford to upsize my wardrobe!
Anyway, there goes my career as a food writer! Tuck into it!
