Giant Shrimp – Possibly The World’s Biggest Prawn!

Be a share millionaire! Tell the world!

I like a bit of seafood now and then (not sea cucumber guts!), especially if it’s caught straight from the sea and ends up on your plate on the same day – like I’ve done previously with some Yellowfin Tuna Fishing. Nothing compares to having a big feed of freshly caught seafood.

South Africa has some great seafood, and I was treated to a crustacean monster Giant Shrimp in Cape Town in South Africa (or otherwise known as a Giant Prawn in other parts of the world).

I devoured this decapod crustacean beast at a restaurant at the V & A Waterfront, which is a popular dining and entertainment precinct in Cape Town. And this was just an entree!

Take note at how big this thing is – I’ve included my sunglasses in the photo as an indication of scale!

Here it is! The Giant Shrimp / Prawn Photo!

Giant Shrimp Prawn

I’ve eaten lobsters and crayfish that are smaller than this Giant Shrimp! In fact, I think some people would have this dish as a main it’s so big!

There are probably a lot of seafood addicts out there wishing to catch a tonne of these to make the biggest shrimp scampi ever! My dad is a seafood addict and he’s the type that would take out a whole tray in the bain marie and dump it on his table to chow down on, Homer Simpson style!

As I’ve mentioned before in many previous posts about South Africa, Cape Town is one of my favourite cities – when the weather is good! It’s a pretty cosmopolitan place with a huge variety of food, entertainment and a pumping night life and it’s in a pretty spectacular location at the base of Table Mountain. If you’re coming from the United States or Europe, South Africa is pretty good value for your exchange rate and you can live like a king when compared to going out at home.

Anyway, back to the Giant Shrimp! I think that this Giant Prawn should appear in My first book of Southern African Ocean Life!
