It’s Funny Cake time! I like it when entrepreneurs become creative when they are selling their products. And cake sellers have joined the bandwagon on this one so that their product goes walking out the door and your hard earned money ends up in their wallets!
I was walking around the Neighbourgoods Market in central Johannesburg in South Africa, taking in all of the sights and smells of this type of local’s gourmet food market.
This doesn’t quite fit the definition of ‘having your cake and eating it too’ when it comes to sticking to a diet and possibly even losing some weight, but I had a good chuckle when I came across this fudge and cake display at one of the stalls – what a brilliant piece of marketing!:
Funny Cake Photo Time!
Yep, that’s right, eat this piece of funny cake, and kiss losing those few extra pounds goodbye. You might have to run a marathon per day for a week to work the calories of this one off! This piece of marketing genius rivals My Wife’s Bitter Beer, and it definitely grabbed my attention!
I decided to pass on the cake, but I had a go at chomping down on some Argentina style empanadas washed down with a pumpkin ale.
The Neigbourgoods Market is held in Johannesburg every Saturday morning and it’s a popular place for locals meet up and have a good graze around the many stalls which offer a variety of great food to chomp on. Good luck in finding a table, as they’re usually chock full of people chowing down on their food.
South Africans are right into their food, and cuisines at the market range from Polish to Italian, Argentinean and Spanish.
Check out the size of these paella pans! And all of these pans sold out when I was there!
South Africa has some unusual food, like Bunny Chow and Mopani Worms, but the mainstream food is excellent quality and great value for money.
Many people pass through Johannesburg to go to Cape Town, but it’s worth getting off the plane there and checking out the nooks and crannies.
My stomach had to be checked in as excess baggage for my next flight!
Brilliant! What clever and honest marketing for a cake. The South Africans do love their food that is true, all the ones I know have a very staple diet of red meat.
Yep, so true. That’s what I love about South Africa! They say it like it is!
