We’ve all bought something from a Duty Free Airport Shop. Some International Tax Free places have more items available than others. But I think the one I am about to present is one of the funniest out there when you leave one country to enter another.
Believe it or not, there is a Duty Free Shop located at the Masai Mara National Park in Kenya right on the border with the adjacent Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.
It’s part of a rudimentary landing strip for small planes that fly in cashed up tourists eager to shoot African animals with their cameras instead of high powered rifles!
Duty Free Airport Shop – Perfume, or Alcohol?
One of my friends took this great shot of the Masai Mara Duty Free Airport Shop when he went travelling through Kenya and Africa. I’m keen to check out this place myself!
I wondered if the Wilderbeest popped in for their last minute bottle of Scotch whiskey or their limit of cigarettes every time they crossed the border as part of the natural wonder that is the annual migration!
This is what I love about Africa – totally unpretentious!
I guess there’s no comparison to this Duty Free Area when compared to what’s available at Dubai International Airport, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. But hey, I’m still keen to check it out during the annual wildebeest migration!
Things To Do After Buying Tax Free Stuff Here!
Other things to do in East Africa after visiting the Masai Mara Duty Free Airport Shop and buying a truckload of alcohol, cigarettes and perfume – have an elephant walk through your camping ground at the Ngorogoro Crater, and visit the local and innovative Hairdresser.
OMG and I was worried that I\’d have nowhere to shop when I visit there – good to know I can still get a good deal on perfume so I don\’t have to smell the elephants… 🙂
Ha ha, you should be able to score a great deal!
Hilarious! Makes you wonder what the customs check-in looks like. Africa is truly the most wonderful continent for hearty laughs – I always find the local signs have the most wonderful sense of humor!
That is hilarious. If only all airports had duty free shops like that…

Haha Hilarious! What they say is true, Africa is an amazing discovery, you never what you’ll find! clearly you just proved that right now!
Africa always wanted to see 🙂

Africa is such an amazing continent, things that we never thought where possible are normal there. If I ever visit Kenya I really have to go to this “Airport”.

Duty free shops are one of the best parts in travelling. And the other good thing is you can buy basically anything from these shops.
I grew up in Kenya and you often see little shops with fantastic names. I remember seeing a tiny little tin shack with the name Shoppers Delightful Emporium. I wish I had taken a photo. I have just discovered your website, it’s great!!
