SPACE BEER – BEER IN SPACE! (Imagine that being said the the old Muppets segment, PIGS IN SPACE!)

Anyway, enough of that silliness. As part of a short junket that Destination New South Wales sent me on to the Australian Open of Surfing, I was stoked (Australian slang for ‘very happy’) to be sent to the 4 Pines Brewery, which is located just across the road from the Manly Ferry Terminal in Sydney.

I love going to microbreweries or craft beer places, because their beer does taste hand made and usually much better than the mass produced stuff.

As you would know, I love beer and love trying all sorts of brews around the world to add to my dodgey Beer Index, which is like the Big Mac Index but lists the affordability of the countries I’ve visited at the time by the price of their beer.

But Jaron from 4 Pines Brewery has an unusual brew that wrestled my attention – Space Beer. That’s right, beer that can be drunk in a weightless environment.

When I first heard this, I thought that he was taking the piss, but this guy is for real, and has gone to extraordinary lengths to develop Space Beer. He’s even had it tested in a weightless environment. The beer, which is derived from a stout, is now ready to go off into space.

So, it’s now possible to have beer o’clock outside of Planet Earth.

Anyway, here is an interview with Jaron that explains more about the Space Beer process.

I thought it was virtually impossible to drink beer in space. I thought it would have pissed everywhere as soon as the cap was taken off. For example, at high altitude in Bolivia, a massive head of foam comes out of the local brews as soon as the cap is removed because of lower atmospheric pressure.

Now I’ve been inspired with a new goal. Something to add to the bucket list. Drinking beer in space! I just have to manage pulling off the junkets to end all junkets, and have someone send me into space so I can drink beer. I’ll even tweet about it from space if I’m allowed to!

Beer With Richard Branson in Space?

Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Galactic, if you’re reading this, I’d like to have a beer with you in space. I’m sure Jaron is willing to shout a couple of cartons to help out with the beer in space celebrations!
