If you haven’t been living under a rock (sometimes I wish I was), there’s no escaping the Coronavirus Memes and Jokes that are circulating around the internet.

Considering the crazy behaviour being captured all around the world like fisticuffs over toilet paper, prospective diners avoiding Chinese Restaurants, people thinking they’ll get sick from drinking Corona Beer, runs on non-perishable food like rice and pasta, and other silly shenanigans, the whole world is going to pot. Actually, maybe some people should smoke some pot just to calm down a bit!
In amongst all of the hysteria, some people do have a sense of humour and are making light of this pandemic situation. I for one love this kind of stuff – it’s actually a coping mechanism when an imminent threat is coming – either real or perceived.
I’ve seen this in New Orleans previously where everyday people were trying to get back on their feet after the devastating winds and floods from Hurricane Katrina. I saw some funny T-Shirts emblazoned with rather politically incorrect slogans such as ‘Katrina Gave Me A Blow Job I’ll Never Forget’, and ‘I Went To New Orleans During Hurricane Katrina And All I Got Was This T-Shirt, A Brand New Cadillac, and a Plasma TV..’
It’s just human nature!
But this Coronavirus event is going global very quickly and I’m sure there’s going to be all sorts of jokes produced in multiple languages since the virus escaped China and started making it’s way around the world. Of course, this is thanks to the media which is, let’s say, going ape with rolling coverage.
Of course, some people are going to say it’s bad taste to make jokes about the Coronavirus when people are dying. Yes, it’s sad that we’re going to lose people in this pandemic and there’s nothing you can do about it. But that’s life, and I know way too well that life can deal you some crappy cards some time and just like one of my favourite authors, Mark Manson says, Everything is F*cked!
Yes, you just don’t need to take everything seriously, all of the time. I’m not going to go into all of the facts of how the virus behaves and what to do if you come across it – I’ll leave that to the World Health Organisation and other trusted medical providers.
