Cool Restaurant – next to an Aquarium!
The Cargo Hold is an Cool Restaurant located at the uShaka Marine World in Durban, South Africa. It should probably appear in Cool Restaurants: Top of the World. It is definitely one of the more unique places in the world where I have had a really good feed!
This is the scene from the popular dolphin show that is held there at the Marine Park.
Anyway, this restaurant is unusual because it’s located within a beached, old, rusty ship that contains a number of large aquariums.
What’s also unusual about the Cargo Hold is that one can eat some great seafood (try the Mozambique Chilli Prawns), literally right next to some live seafood, including some rather large sharks that look like they may want to have you for dinner.
Yes, it’s a bit weird chowing down on some tasty seafood when their relatives are watching you. Try sitting next to the glass while a large ragged tooth shark swims by while you spot it in the corner of your eye! It’s a bit weird and sometimes off putting when you face off against one of the most feared predators on the planet!
Cool Restaurant next to sea creatures!
Check out a pic I took at the Cargo Hold – literally taken next to my table. You will notice a fully set up table next to the aquarium!
So if you feel like a safe face off against some sharks in a Cool Restaurant, check out the Cargo Hold and try not to stare at the fish swimming around and staring at your meal.
Somehow, I don’t think that the Cargo Hold appeared in the Traveler’s Cookbook which is shown below. But it’s worth having a feed there if you are ever hanging around Durban, as it’s not something that you do every day!
so is it bad form to order seafood there? !!
Ha ha! The Mozambique prawns are great!
I’ve actually never heard of Mozambique prawns, but i will have to say that sounds like a must someday. I guess on a list of things to try and see before I die. I always love live animal shows and definitely love Sea world
Wow – that is cool. I’m in California, and we have a number of great aquariums out here (Monterey, Long Beach, Scripps, Sea World – although SW is a bit tacky), but nothing with a view like that. The Monterey aquarium has a huge “Open Bay” tank (about 2 stories) that has the same view, but it’s just an exhibit, you can’t sit and have your lunch next to it (although it is also quite cool).
