Bork bork! That’s right. This article is one of those unusual food pieces, and this one is called Poulet Fish, or Chicken Fish. This one could easily make my list of 52 Weird Food and Drinks because it’s that little bit different.
Anyway, this one is for people who want to have fish that doesn’t taste too fishy and want it to taste more like chicken. I don’t really get the reason for that – you may as well have chicken if you want something that tastes like chicken!
Chicken Fish! It’s For Real!
But I have indeed tasted a fish that does taste like chicken – and it’s found in Vanuatu in the South Pacific Ocean. Check out a plate that I devoured there in a place near Port Vila, near the capital.
However Poulet Fish doesn’t entirely taste like chicken, but it’s pretty close! The texture of the Chicken Fish is closer to chicken than fish, and so is the taste. It’s somewhere in the middle – doesn’t quite taste like fish, and doesn’t quite taste like chicken, but it’s a very nice dish to sample if you’re ever in Vanuatu. Have it with a healthy serve of vegetables and a bit of creamy sauce, and wash down with a crisp bottle of Tusker Beer. And do this as the sun is setting over the beach, so that’s pretty hard to beat!
I probably wouldn’t want to eat anything at all after visiting the Anus and Pigskin sign which is also located in Vanuatu (sounds terrible to me!), but hey, check it out. It’s worth trying out the Chicken Fish.

You order some fish and your lunch tastes like poultry hahaha, nice experience. 🙂
It was a nice experience actually!
I had this in Peru, my god, I was so confused about it, I didn’t know if our tour guide was taking the pee or not and his cheeky smile did nothing to give me any clues, but I researched it and it was actually fish. How strange!
Yeah, it’s pretty weird – the mind says it’s fish, but the tongue says it’s chicken!
Oh no! Another non-poultry dish that tastes like chicken. *laugh*
Maybe call it FICKEN? CHISH?
‘Ficken’ means ‘fuck’ in German, so…that’s a winner!
Fantastic! Committed that one to the memory bank!
