The Bugatti Veyron – Someone’s Sunday Drive!
The Bugatti Veyron is currently the world’s fastest production car. That is, the fastest car that is able to be registered to be driven on normal roads before such potential death traps are forced to only be driven on a race track. It has a top speed of over 400 km per hour (around 253 miles per hour) and usually makes most rev heads explode with excitement, even more so than the V8 Muscle Cars from Australia. This is faster that Formula One or Indycars!
Only 300 models of this car were produced. I’m guessing demand wasn’t that great, considering the $US 1,000,000 price tag for this set of wheels. I don’t exactly have the pocket money to buy this thing! Then again, for those who have the money and wanted the prestige of owning the most expensive and fastest car in the world, money is no object!
I spotted this Bugatti Veyron parked outside the front of a hotel that was near the Dubai Mall and the Burj Khalifa. I had a look at the number plates of this beast – apparently, it belongs to a member of the Saudi Royal family who must have felt like a short drive to Dubai to test if the spark plugs were working properly.
Surprisingly, for a million dollar car, I was astounded at the lack of security around this car. I mean, there were streams of people waiting to be photographed with the car (including myself), but hey, I guess no one is too willing to annoy a member of the Saudi Royal Family, so I guess it has some in built security!
The Bugatti Veyron is also one of the thirstiest cars running around as well. It’s top speed fuel economy is 3 miles per U.S. gallon (78 L/100 km), or if you are more gentle with the accelerator, you can squeeze 13 miles per U.S. gallon (18 L/100 km) out of it. This means that you will always need to pull over and fill up every few minutes (!), but hey, fuel is cheap enough in this part of the world. I’m guessing if you can afford the car, you can afford the gasoline bill!
Now, if I can score a junket by driving one of these things around, now that would be a major achievement for me!
