Asimo Robot by Honda – has probably travelled more than you!

Asimo is a cool humanoid robot that is able to conduct a lot of human-like movements that makes you almost think there is a pint sized human inside him taking the piss out of all of us. Well, that’s what used to happen in the old days when robots where characters in TV shows!

Unlike popular TV robots like the one in Lost In Space, and the Daleks from Dr Who, Asimo is able to navigate a flight of stairs no problems at all without coming to a complete halt! In fact, he can move backwards and forwards, go up and down stairs, and even do a bit of a boogie which would probably make my dancing look like I have two left feet!

Anyway, Asimo is an acronym meaning Advanced Step in Innovative MObility. The original plan was to create an automated beast that was able to help people with mobility issues out.

The thing with this piece of plastic and metal is that it has travelled around the world more than most of us! I’d like to see his passport stamps!

Asimo has been all over the world as part of a number of exhibitions, and even travelled all over North America before making himself at home at Disneyland these days, where there is a popular show on offer so you can see what Asimo can get up to.

I can imagine all of the kiddies out there screaming ‘I want one’ for Christmas. There has probably been a few letters written to Santa in the North Pole by many kids wishing they had one!

Who knows what the future holds for robotics? I’m sure there are a lot of techno geeks out there keen to see where robotics can lead us all!

I didn’t ask Asimo to see if he could pour me a beer, but I reckon he could be programmed to do so!
