Today, I’ve got an unusual travel photo from my mate at Curious Drifter – it’s about Airport Restaurants. But it is a literal interpretation of that term which is somewhat a little offbeat!
That is, a restaurant inside an airport hanger that’s not at the airport!
Anyway, he took this unusual travel photo on a long trip throughout South East Asia. This is apparently a Russian owned restaurant on the beach in Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
This place is also known as Kampong Saom, and is a province of Cambodia on the Gulf of Thailand.
Airport Restaurants – Literally!
It is shaped like an airport hanger and contains a full sized Antonov-24 aeroplane inside as well as a semi-trailer and a BMW cut in half and stuck on two separate walls. Wa wa wee wah!
Sounds like a logistical nightmare to me in the name of trying to bring in customers, but I guess you have to do whatever works these days! Even if that involves hoisting up a large plane inside of your restaurant for everyone to look at. Weird but true!
I’m not sure what it’s like, but it’s probably much better than many of the airport restaurants I have bought food from. Well, stuff that was supposed to be food. We’ve all been to the non-descript shops that seem to sell the same sort of food all over the world. But now you can visit an airport themed restaurant without ever setting foot inside an airport terminal if you go to this place in Cambodia.
I wonder if you can have your passport stamped here? Might be another gimmick the owners could take up.
More Airport Restaurant Stuff
Somehow, I don’t think this Airport Restaurant appeared in The Terminal. But maybe it should!
Have you eaten here at all? Leave a comment if you have or if you’ve dined in some other aviation themed eating establishments previously!

I once ate at a small airport in Thailand where the food was so bad that it was almost nauseating, I pushed through cause I was so hungry but as it turns out it was actually nauseating.. I spent 2 days afterwards on the toilet. If it looks dodgy in Asia, it is dodgy! Good post.
Reminds me of a really bad joke – did you know that traveller’s diarrhoea is hereditary? Because it runs in your jeans… ;P
